Aucoot’s New Chapter – a letter from our founder, John McDavid

I have some news to share with you. I’m moving on and it feels like the right time to give Aucoot over to the safe and trusted hands of a new owner.

What I love the most about Aucoot is all of the incredible places I’ve seen and all the lovely people I’ve met along the way. I’m so proud to have created a brand that is recognised, respected and trusted by many.

Setting up and running Aucoot has been such a great experience for me and my family. It has given us the freedom to live our lives in a way that makes us happy and for that I will be forever grateful. That’s not to say it’s been without its hard work and challenges, and this is where a special mention is owed to my partner Kate. Without her, this would have all been a lot harder.

I want to thank all of those who have chosen to work with me and Aucoot. As we know, bigger isn’t always better and when you’re a small business owner, those clients mean a lot more.

It feels like the right time to move on; I wanted a new challenge and it felt like I’d taken Aucoot as far as I could. That’s where Dan O’Brien comes in. Dan and I met a long time ago at our Cereal Magazine show apartment when he was looking for a new home. Several years later, we were introduced through a mutual contact who knew I’d been considering a change. With Dan, it was a nice, natural process which felt right.

When you build something from scratch and pour everything into it, it becomes integral to who you are; it’s part of you. Meeting Dan, it felt like he understood that, and what Aucoot represented. I liked his enthusiasm and excitement for what he could build with the foundations that have been laid over the years.

Dan brings a wealth of experience from over 17 years at Hamptons as well as leading the revitalisation of Urban Spaces. I am excited to see him take custodianship, nurture Aucoot’s community and shape an exciting new chapter for the business. It feels like the perfect fit with Dan and we will definitely continue to work together in the future.

I now look forward to concentrating on my new venture, Sekforde, and the opportunities that it will bring. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped in one way or another over the years, it really means the world to me and my family.
