Emilie is passionate about ensuring projects are personal, and that the spaces she creates feel inspiring to their users. Taking on projects of varying scales, her portfolio ranges from complete home overhauls, to consultations around best use of space and colour in rented homes. This award-winning architecture and interior design practice was founded in 2015 by Demian Erbar and Holger Mattes, who met whilst working at David Chipperfield Architects – one of the UK’s most internationally renowned architecture firms. Based in London, Erbar Mattes combine clarity and simplicity through their use of light, material and form to create inspirational spaces for their clients.

Most recently, Erbar Mattes has been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit Awards 2022 for Blockmakers Arms, and won ‘Best House’ and ‘Best Use of Materials’ awards for Harvey Road from the Haringey Design Awards 2018 and New London Architecture Don’t Move, Improve! 2017 respectively.

Founded by Harriet Farlam and Ben Chandler, Farlam & Chandler bring together 25 years of experience across the garden design and construction industries. Their timeless gardens combine the creative with the practical in perfect balance, whilst seamlessly responding to the context of their surroundings and their clients’ needs. The pair behind Farlam & Chandler have helped to deliver two RHS Chelsea Gold and Silver medal-winning gardens over the recent years.

Their approach is centred on the harmony between their clients’ emotional and practical responses to a site, giving spaces a depth of meaning and authentic character. Established in 2002, Featherstone Young is headed by Sarah Featherstone and Jeremy Young, who believe that good design is shaped by people. The wider team possesses a diverse range of expertise, which is harnessed through open project design ‘crits’ and a focus on creative thinking to ensure every project benefits from the practice’s maximum potential. Design quality is a fundamental tenant to all Featherstone Young’s work, which spans residential, educational, community, art and heritage commissions. The practice holds sense of place and local identity in high priority when it comes to a project’s context, making sure each of their buildings is distinct and responsive to its immediate surroundings. Environmental concerns are also taken into consideration, with Featherstone Young ranking social and environmental needs over economic profit.

ferm LIVING draws on Scandinavian design traditions and simple aesthetics – but with a distinctive graphic edge that makes every item firmly contemporary. ferm LIVING is based in Denmark, where Trine Andersen founded a graphic design studio in 2005, soon expanding into design and interior products. As Trine found herself unable to find wallpaper with the kind of graphic design she wanted, she took matters into her own hands – and her first wallpaper collection was launched in February 2006. Ferm now stocks a constantly growing range of interior products, available around the globe. Even so, all designs remain rooted in the Danish soil, where it all began.

This small furniture design company was set up in 2008. Finch’s team of specialist crafts and trades people work closely with architects, interior designers and builders to create the perfect kitchen, wardrobe or freestanding furniture piece for their client’s space. The unique requirements of each project are taken into consideration, and matched with the design and skills required to deliver a bespoke result. A concern for environmental impact runs alongside Finch’s work, so carbon footprint, sustainability and waste are always taken into account too.

Finkernagel Ross are a London and Hamburg based team creating bold and impactful architecture and interior design. They embrace every project as an opportunity to craft the unexpected from a unique and distinctive idea, making the result inherently bespoke and personal.

From the initial vision through to the finishing touches, they strive to use light to create impact, harness materials to do the unexpected and make the most of every detail to create something extraordinary. Fiona Barratt Interiors was formed in 2006 and is now a successful interior design studio, working on luxury residential and commercial projects in the UK and overseas. Fiona says: “My philosophy behind creating fluid and elegant spaces is born of understanding the aspirations of the client, the relevance of location and through maximising the potential of existing elements of the space. I develop these with imagination and vision. The result is an interior that tells a story in relation to the four walls in which it exists, and most importantly an interior that reflects the client’s individuality… a successful interior should enhance not dictate the way you live.”

Architecture studio, Forgeworks, creates innovative and modern homes with a clear sense of character. Influenced by traditional construction techniques, their designs harness and celebrate the beauty of natural materials, often in experimental ways which result in expressive shapes and detail.

Carefully balancing form and function, the nuances of everyday life are cleverly addressed with spatial problem-solving and close collaboration with clients. The studio develops each design through hand-sketches, 3D modelling and detailed technical drawing; a rewarding process for clients to gain clarity of the design concept and translation to the finished form.

Found Associates is an architecture and interiors studio based in Soho, London. They have created work for a prestigious list of international clients, from private residences to global companies including Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods and Selfridges. The practice is RIBA-award winning, and creates designs that are rooted in powerful simplicity, with attention to space, detail and quality of design. They have also developed an innovative collection of temporary shop fittings – Found Pop – which can be rented for easy assembly for pop-up stores.

Fran Hickman established her eponymous studio in 2014 and, since then, has garnered an impressive list of residential and commercial commissions. For Hickman, interior design is a language which affords her clients the opportunity to tell their stories through objects, artworks, furniture and form. Her team include interior designers and architects, who create highly tailored interiors with a subtle sense of drama. An authentic response to client briefs and the consideration of context takes precedence over a signature aesthetic, resulting in a varied and elegant portfolio. Fran Hickman’s studio is sought after the world over, with projects completed in New York, Dubai, Tokyo and London. Hickman is also featured in Phaidon’s By Design: The World’s Best Contemporary Interior Designers (2020).

Galvin Brothers design and make contemporary handcrafted furniture from their workshops in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Building on their Father’s 62 years of joinery and cabinet making experience, the business was formed by Matthew Galvin (designer) and Andrew Galvin (joiner) in March 2012.

Their designs celebrate the uniquely wonderful properties of English Oak and other hardwoods, placing traditional joinery techniques at the centre of contemporary forms — functional objects with a twist.
